Drove over 500 miles today. Not a lot for most people, but it did take about 9 hours with rain and road construction going on. You forget how exhausting long-distance driving can be until you do it. I’m not sure how truck drivers can do that for a career. Still, the adrenaline rush from thinking about my destination keeps me going. :)
So, I leave tomorrow morning. The majority of my stuff will be following me in about 6 months, once I know for sure my new job will lead to a permanent position. I’ve set aside plenty of time for a slow drive and I’ve packed up everything I should need for the next couple of weeks. But I just know that when I get there I’m going to remember something I’ve left behind.
Well, in just 2 more days I will begin driving across the country for my new job. I will be driving all the way through 4 different states and partially across 2 others. The best thing about starting a new life in a new city is that you have the opportunity to completely reinvent yourself. I think this time I’m going to tell people that I’m a Vampire hunter. Because nothing impresses women more than being a Vampire hunter. :)
I love watching martial arts movies, especially older ones. The moves are fun and I understand they’re definitely not easy. But it always makes me laugh to see the actors block a punch or a kick that was never going to hit them anyway. Either because the blow would never reach them, unless their opponent’s arm or leg suddenly grew six inches longer in the middle of a move, or because the blow has already gone past them when they actually block it. Still, it’s always entertaining to watch, just wish it didn’t always look so choreographed.
You know you’ve built quality brand recognition when a customer can talk to anyone in the world and tell them their email address is “@yahoo.com” and they’re never asked to spell it.
Well, I’m officially employed again. I start a contract job in Vegas a week from Monday. So I get to spend the next week driving across the country and then a hectic weekend getting an apartment set up. If all goes well I should be converted to a permanent employee after a few months and, with any luck, I can get a house and that’s the last time I will have to move. Because, moving really sucks. First, you have the truck loading phase which is the biggest game of Tetris you’ll ever play and second, you have to unpack everything. The only nice thing about moving is that it gives you a chance to throw out a lot of crap you’ve been holding on to for far too long.
I think there needs to be a name for the fear of losing your home or car or first born child to some clause stuck in the middle of a software EULA. Does anybody ever read those things? I can just imagine armed thugs breaking down a door and dragging off screaming children in the middle of the night while throwing a 400 page document at the crying parents and yelling “you clicked ‘I Agree’!”
I think they should call it “Eulaphobia”. :)
Being unemployed can leave you with a little more free time on your hands than you expect. To fill the day I got the urge to pick up some crayons and a coloring book. This is my first masterpiece. A friend of mine laughed and said that crayons are for children. I say if you can’t act like a 5 year old while you’re unemployed then you might as well just keep you job. Now I just need to clear off some space on the refrigerator. :)
Warning: I always cuddle back. Enter at your own risk.
The only thing I hate about watching British television shows is that the characters always get out of the wrong side of the car. They need to stop it, just stop it.
Well, I got the job. If only first dates went that well. Unless I run into an issue with the background check I’ll be heading to Las Vegas in the next two weeks. With luck this will be the last time I have to move across the country. I might take a couple extra days and do a bit of a road tour on the way, haven’t decided yet. If anyone wants to visit you’ll have to let me know. :D
So I have a job interview tomorrow. It will be the first time I’ve interviewed for a job in almost 7 years. I’m considering this one more of a practice interview since the job is a long shot. But I really hate interviewing. It’s like constantly going on first dates. You spend the majority of the time worrying that they’ll see who you really are and you’ll never hear from them again.
The main reason I can’t write fan fiction is because I would keep wanting to ship the female characters with myself.
Each Summer I watch “So You Think You Can Dance”, because dancing is awesome and I love to watch people who are really good at it, especially since I’m not. (I never watch Dancing with the Stars though because I really don’t like their format.) But, I really dislike the way the judges overrate dancers that dance in contemporary and ballet styles. Anyone good at those styles are immediately sent to the next round of auditions. People who do hip-hop, ballroom and tap dancing have a much higher chance of having to do choreography before they can get through. It’s really quite unfair since contemporary and ballet dancers can’t dance in all styles either, I’ve rarely seen them do well at ballroom and hip-hop dancing. Yet the judges treat them like they’ve mastered every possible dance style because they can do ballet.
The other thing I don’t like about the show is that the majority of people auditioning are hip-hop, break dancers and street dancers. These dancers have rarely had any training in any other style of dancing. So they do these brilliant audition routines in their own style and then fail to do well on the show when they have to do other styles. I would love to see a separate show just for hip-hop and break dancing so that they can compete just within their own style. I think that would be a lot of fun to watch.
I would love to see it for tap dancing and ballet as well but I don’t think those styles are popular enough to carry their own show. Still, I’ll be watching all summer as the dancers I root for get dropped from the show because the ones I like never seem to get enough votes.
You know we put a lot of stock in ancient prophecies. Just go around quoting Nostradamus or the Mayans and watch people run around like chickens with their head cut off. But I can’t help but wonder if anyone is making any real prophecies in the modern world. If not, I’d like to give it a shot. I really want to scare the shit out of people that will live a thousand years from now.
